Work as Emancipation or Emancipation from Work?

Women’s economic empowerment has become a buzzword both in international institutions and policymaking, with the SDGs making it a priority. Economists and policymakers have generally considered greater labor force participation as the primary channel through which such empowerment can be achieved. But is more work necessarily the answer? This panel will reflect on women and work from different perspectives, debating this issue through brief presentations and interaction. 




SCEPA works to focus the public economics debate on the role government can and should play in the real productive economy - that of business, management, and labor - to raise living standards, create economic security, and attain full employment.
