Willi Semmler, Emeritus Professor of Economics at The New School for Social Research
Willi Semmler is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at The New School and an affiliated researcher with the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (SCEPA), where he focuses on the economics of climate change. His research spans empirical macroeconomics, financial markets, climate policy, and macroeconomic dynamics, with a special interest in U.S. and EU economies. He holds a Ph.D. and Habilitation from the Free University of Berlin and has held affiliations with institutions such as IIASA (Austria) and the Center for European Economic Research (Germany). Semmler has published extensively in leading journals and with major academic presses, and his recent books include Sustainable Macroeconomics, Climate Risks and Energy Transitions (Springer, 2023). His work integrates dynamic modeling to explore sustainable growth and the economic risks of climate disasters. He has served on evaluation panels for the IMF and EU Commission and was a visiting scholar at the European Central Bank and the IMF. In 2020, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the American University of Europe in Skopje and is ranked in the top 3% of economists worldwide by RePEc.
